Biography
Melissa is from Nova Scotia, Canada, and has been working abroad for 7 years. She has taught in Egypt, the UAE and is looking forward to joining and being part of NAS Jakarta and experiencing a new and vibrant culture.
While working as a Teacher’s Assistant in Cairo, Melissa found her passion of working with children and realized that teaching is what she wanted to do with her life. She then received her PGCE from the University of Sunderland the following year and pursued her career as a teacher.
Melissa believes that creating a caring and nurturing environment, and most importantly, building trusting relationships with her students is essential in both their academic and social development. She believes that when students feel safe, comfortable and are continuously encouraged, they are more willing to ask questions, take risks and reach their full learning potential. Melissa takes pride in the strong relationships she builds with each of her students and in knowing that her students feel they are cared for.
Melissa enjoys music, cooking, outdoor activities such as hiking and camping and has always been a huge animal lover.
