I was delighted that so many of you were able to join us for the Christmas Fair last Saturday. As well as our NIS families, we were pleased to have many visitors to our school from the wider Jakarta community, in all around 800 people attended the Fair. It was a remarkable event, the result of many weeks planning and preparation, and of the hard work of all members of staff as well as parents. Our sponsors were incredibly generous, providing a terrific range of fabulous prizes for our raffle and the children’s tombola.
Children enjoyed a wonderful selection of activities, with face painting and the bouncy castle proving to be a favourite for many. The arts and crafts activities around the big tree were busy all day with children creating beautiful holiday cards, origami Christmas trees and hand painted stones. Games on the field provided fun for children who wanted to be more active; the Kerupuk eating competition proving to be both challenging and tasty. Lots of children took the opportunity to have a chat with Santa Claus about their Christmas wishes and capture the memory in a photograph.
Our parents did an amazing job in providing delicious cakes, biscuits and other treats for the Bake Sale. There was a constant bustle of hungry visitors waiting to buy the goodies on offer. The parents also set up and ran the stall, doing a tremendous job on such a hot day. Our children’s art and craft sale made a display of some beautiful pieces of art work, all created by our own students. We are grateful to parents for purchasing their child’s individual piece of festive art.
The entertainment went on all day, with live music provided by 3 terrific bands; Sounds from Heaven, Matamira and our own NIS staff band. We have an amazing number of talented staff at school! There was delicious food available throughout the day to keep everyone going and the outside vendors with their array of beautiful crafts and tasty treats gave us the opportunity to do some last-minute gift buying.
I would like to thank everyone who was involved in creating the NIS Christmas Fair and everyone who came along and joined in the fun. It was a truly memorable day, and I’m pleased to tell you that we raised over 30 million rupiah to go into our charity fund.
