Grade 5's started a Challenge Based Learning project this week with the Makerspace. Mr Andy, Mr Jack, Mr Jordan and Miss Miri were all in attendance for the exciting launch of a project to help a rescue dog from Animal Mama.
Lucy is a toy French poodle who was mistreated by her previous owner and has multiple health issues, most notably a broken back which means she cannot use her back legs to walk.
Lucy is now fostered by my partner and I, Erika who works at Animal Mama. We are delighted that the wonderful grade 5 students are taking up this challenge.
This two week project will focus on the key concepts of function, specifically looking at Lucy's mobility and also responsibility which is a key issue in dog ownership.
The line of enquiry is looking at what it means to be a successful learner, which focuses on the process of enquiring, asking questions and answering them with critical and creative thinking and ultimately coming up with a solution to a real world issue.
Keep your eye out for any updates to the Grade 5 learning journey in their transition year to Grade 6 and the MYP!
