Taking a look back on this semester’s exciting Primary school learning trips at Northbridge This semester, Northbridge International School Cambodia students in the Primary school have enjoyed a variety of trips and experiences to enhance their learning. Educational field trips are an important part of the school’s overall co- and extra-curricular program. They play an integral role in students’ learning and we are committed to finding new and engaging places to visit as well as inviting people in to speak to our students so that their understanding can deepen regarding a particular topic or issue.

They play an integral role in students’ learning and we are committed to finding new and engaging places to visit as well as inviting people in to speak to our students so that their understanding can deepen regarding a particular topic or issue.

Here is a sample of some of the trips our students went on this month:

Siem Reap

Our Grade 5 students enjoyed their first overnight school trip when they visited Siem Reap for three days. Not only did they visit some cultural landmarks such as Angkor Wat, enjoy a performance by the Phare Circus and get creative through taking part in a pottery workshop, but they also engaged in various activities that focused on developing healthy relationships and personal wellbeing.

This was part of their Who We Are unit which focused on changes in ourselves and our relationships as we go through puberty, and very importantly, developing independence.

The learning focus of the trip was developing the following areas:

PYP Approaches to Learning Focus

Social - Cooperating, group decision making, adopting a variety of roles, respecting others

Self management - Healthy lifestyle; safety; codes of behaviour; physical skills; organisation

PYP Learner Profile Focus

Becoming more of a Risk-Taker and a clearer communicator as well as being more balanced and open-minded.

For some of our students, this was their first experience of staying away from home without their parents. Not only did they do very well and have a good time, but they also had an opportunity to bond as a class through new shared experiences - something that is very important for them as they get ready to move into the MYP next school year.

The Aquarium at Aeon 2

Our Grade 3 students enjoyed a trip to the aquarium where they were able to see various reptiles and fish species as part of their Sharing the Planet unit which had a focus on biodiversity. They spent time watching an animal show, did a fact-finding scavenger hunt. Once back in class, students were challenged to create a diorama that showed how different habitats have been affected by humans.

Learning about Pets

Our Kindergarten students are busy with a unit related to how people interact with different animals. To help them understand the close relationship that people have with their pets, Mr Alex brought in his puppies for the students to meet and discussed how they care for them and how they got their dogs from a shelter as their dogs were rescued from a factory. This led to discussions about the importance of responsibly caring for our animals.
