Karen began her professional career as an attorney in Washington, DC. Her husband Gary joined the US Foreign Service in 2005, and transitioned into the role of trailing spouse.
Not one to give up easily on her professional ambitions, she began volunteering at a school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she discovered a passion for leveling the playing field for all students. In 2011, she began pursuing a Master’s in Education with a focus on supporting English Language Learners.
Since then she has taught in Washington, D.C.’s public schools and in international schools in Niger and Mexico. Most recently, Karen worked as the Intervention Coordinator for Mundo Verde Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., launching and coordinating a research-based-based Response to Intervention program.
Karen joins us in Cambodia following her husband’s career. She has two pre-teenaged daughters and enjoys biking, hiking, going on long walks, practicing yoga and spinning.
