BSB’s Year 9 Claire Shannon-Vermillion, Konnor Wallis and Jeremy Cao were among 666 students from 27 countries around the world to fly into New York on the 12th November, 2015 to take part in the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC), Tournament of Champions at Yale University, New Haven.

The first day comprised of introductions from the leaders of the WSC, an inspiring speaker, a lecture by a prize-winning lecturer of statistics and the scavenger hunt which took the students around the main sites of Yale’s campus.

The second day was competition day - a day of collaborative writing and debating. BSB started well, winning their first debate against Bromsgrove, Thailand. The debate focused on the safety of driverless taxis.

On Sunday, we took a day off and visited New York City, the first visit for us all! We were all mesmerized by the tall skyscrapers and the shopping experience. We visited the Empire State Building, Time Square and finished with a rest in Central Park.

On the Monday, they took part in the Scholar’s Bowl, the Debate Showcase and finished with the closing ceremony. Unfortunately the weekend had to come to an end, but the students came away with life long memories of their time at Yale University.
