Welcome to the monthly update from the Northbridge International School Cambodia Parent Council, which follows their regular meeting and discussion with Principal Mr Richard Vaughan. Reports

The Parent Council (PC) has suggested the school give out student reports a few weeks before the end of semester, and that teachers arrange meetings with each parent to go through the report and discuss what both parties could do to help the student improve.

Homework

Primary parents have suggested the school give more homework, and specifically more writing tasks, such as asking students to make sentences using the new words they are learning to spell, which helps improve their writing composition as well as handwriting.

Facilities

The PC hopes that the proposed new swimming pool and auditorium could be built soon.

Learning Enrichment Activities Program (LEAP)

The PC noticed that the number of Learning Enrichment Activities Program (LEAP) programs offered this semester are fewer than previously, with some favorite options overlapping on the same day. Therefore, the PC suggested the following improvements:

  • The school could give out the next semester's LEAP program before each holiday starts, so that the school can count the number of participants in each activity, and design the most ideal LEAP schedule to maximizethe number of participants. This also could help reduce the chance of overlapping scheduling for some favourite activities.
  • LEAP courses should include some fixed and long-term program options, as certain skills and sports take a while to master, and cannot be achieved in just one semester, such as gymnastics and acrobatics, ballet, cheerleading, and English language tuition.
  • PC suggests some academic tuition options from our teachers be offered through LEAP, so families don't have to seek help from outside teachers who are not familiar with our school program. The tuition could be for individuals or a group of students.
  • Sometimes the school is unable to find relevant coaches for certain LEAP programs, so if parents know any good coaches, please feel free to recommend them to our school.

The PC welcomes more parents to give feedback and suggestions on how to improve the LEAP program by emailing them at: pc@nisc.edu.kh

The Parent Council (PC) meets at 8am every first Tuesday of each month in the Hub Boardroom. The dates are marked on the school calendar. If you have any topics or concerns that would like to discuss among the parents, feel free to join the meetings or send an e-mail with details to: pc@nisc.edu.kh
