A native of the Republic of Ireland, Paul joined the school in 2015. Currently acting as Deputy Head of Primary and teaching in upper primary, Mr. McCarthy has a wealth of experience in the education sector in a career spanning 21 years to date.
Since graduating from the University of Limerick with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1999, Paul has worked in a variety of school settings, teaching each year level from Nursery to Middle School as well as learning support. Paul joined us directly from the Irish school system where he was a well-regarded school principal. He was voted onto the board of directors of his county’s Education Centre and was also a delegate to the Irish Primary Principals’ Network.
Since joining Léman, Mr. McCarthy has taken a keen interest in our school sports program. Coaching the under 19’s boys’ football team every year since 2015, he was very proud when our boys won our first ACAMIS football title in 2019.
Paul is very proud to work for Léman and greatly enjoys living here in Chengdu, which he describes as his favourite city in the world. He has a keen interest in Mathematics and how pupils can develop their mathematical skills outside the classroom. Outside of school, he enjoys exploring the scenery and culture of China, playing and watching sports, reading all genres, and gardening.
