In addition, your child will be developing valuable skills that will pay dividends in all aspects of learning and prepare them for success in future life.
With music as a creative key, your child will develop skills like critical thinking, resilience, risk-taking or discipline, which he or she can use in their learning in every subject. Activities have been designed to allow your child to explore music in ways that nurture and express their imagination. By using stimuli from around the world and across different genre of music, students will also develop cultural literacy, broadening their understanding of cultural and social history around the world to give them a global perspective.
The focus of music activities at NIS Jakarta this term are all about pitch.
The Early Years classes are learning about pitch through a variety of activities, such as singing action songs. Nursery 1 and 2 are also being very clever by playing one octave using the glockenspiel in steady beat with guitar accompaniment. The Kindergarten 1 and 2 classes are starting to learn to play simple songs on the glockenspiel by reading the colour score. We are loving learning our main song ’Do Ray Me’ from Sounds of Music.
Primary Years classes are starting to form class ensembles, Groep 3-4 and Primary 1-2 are learning to read score using the colour and the music alphabet and using the Glockenspiel and keyboard to apply their learning into music making. Groep 5-6 and Primary 3-4 are composing and working together, learning the ‘Ode to Joy’ and ‘I’m a Little Tea Pot’ and playing in unison using glockenspiel, keyboard and guitar. While the Primary 5-6 children are learning ‘Long Long ago’ and how to sing in two parts harmony, and are also learning the recorder.
So, lots of exciting music learning and music making happening here in our international school. We hope you enjoy your children sharing their music at home (but sympathise while they are learning the recorder!)
