Sixty Seconds with... Saliha Rehanaz (Year 12)

  • Head Girl 2016

Hello Saliha, please introduce yourself.
My name is Saliha Rehanaz. I am from Bangladesh, but I grew up moving from one place to another. I’m 16 years old, and I joined Regents at the beginning of this term. I am in Year 12, and I have just began my IB journey. This is the first time I am living in a boarding school away from my family. I love running, baking and fashion designing. I was elected Head Girl a few weeks ago, after a challenging week of campaigning.

How do you feel you’ve changed since joining the school?
The number of changes I have seen in myself in the past few weeks are countless. I have grown to become a completely new person. I have learned to become more committed, daring and independent. Apart from growing up as a person, I have seen myself physically growing as well. Having the chance to take part in the numerous sports Regents has to offer, I can feel myself grow stronger and more athletic. I am beginning to push myself further as I participate in the competitions and events that take place every week. I rarely find myself bored after joining Regents, because there is so much to do! My ability to respect and communicate with others has also improved, and I have learned to become more patient and organized.

If you had to choose five words to best describe your life at Regents, would they be?
Exciting. Mesmerizing. Creative. Independent. Enjoyable.

What do you most like most about being in Regents?
I love everything about Regents! During the day, I get to interact with the whole school. The teachers are so loving and caring. In Regents, EVERYONE has a smile on their face. Even though, Regents is a gigantic school, everyone is familiar with each other. I feel like I am part of a big family as I walk down the hallways greeting everyone. The staff are so kind and friendly as well. I can never feel alone when I am at school.

After school, when I am at the boarding house, I never feel like I am somewhere else. I always feel like I am home. The boarding parents are always standing by the door afterschool to greet you and ask how your day was. Even in the morning before we go to school, the boarding parents are always there to say good bye to us. We’re all a family at the boarding house. We all help each other with projects and home works. There’s always someone to talk to here. The Gappies are always around the boarding house to help you out with anything you need. Just being a part of the Regents community is a wonderful experience.

And what are you hopes for the future?
Right now I am making my through IB gradually. I am not sure where I want to go after school or what I want to be. I would like to study science further after school, and perhaps become a public speaker, motivating people around the world to make a change. But I believe in living in the present, so I am spending my time now enjoying life as a Regents student, discovering new things about myself every day.
