Nord Anglia Education has released new global research on metacognition, conducted in partnership with Boston College. The study shows that when students understand how they learn, they build stronger confidence, independence, and essential future-ready skills, with gains of up to 72% in collaboration, 70% in curiosity, 69% in creativity, and 68% in critical thinking.

At North Broward Preparatory School, this approach is already embedded in daily practice. The research affirms what our teachers see every day: intentional thinking routines and reflection help students become more capable, curious, and prepared for an AI-driven world.

NBPS teachers use thinking routines across every division to make learning visible and purposeful. The global study found that these routines can drive up to 50% growth in curiosity and compassion when used consistently, with at least 40% gains across all key skills through daily practice. In our classrooms, this translates into students becoming confident problem solvers and innovative thinkers.

Reflection Builds Confidence and Independence

Reflection is a core part of the student experience at North Broward Prep. Through advisory check-ins, goal setting, digital portfolios, arts and athletics critiques, and IB CAS reflections, students develop the self-awareness and independence highlighted in the research. In fact, 85% of students reported a stronger understanding of their strengths, while 76% reported increased independence.
