I sincerely hope you had the opportunity to see this year’s main secondary school production of Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”. It was yet another step up in the quality of drama performance here at BISS Puxi. It was a chilling and gripping piece of work which the students delivered superbly well. It was a triumph of team work, skilful direction and some highly developed acting skills.
Another high quality exhibition of work has been on display this week in the ground floor corridor of the primary building. The work of our Year 3 and 4 artists is eye catching and has drawn lots of very positive feedback.
Next it is the turn of our talented senior artists to showcase their work at the IB Visual Arts exhibition with an opening night viewing on the 3rd floor of the secondary building on Monday 24 March between 6pm – 8pm.
Thank you to all of you who took the time to complete the Parents’ Lens Survey that was sent out to parents in February. We are always keen to hear people’s views on our work and we will later in the year being giving you the opportunity to complete and return the longer parents’ survey that we conduct each year. The survey confirmed that parents expect a high quality all round education in a safe and healthy environment with a wide variety of educational opportunities. It also confirmed how much you value the quality of our staff, the challenging personalised learning that is delivered on a daily basis, our focus on our students’ behaviour and social graces (BSG) and the daily email provided for secondary students through our online digital information network (ODIN).
As ever no school is perfect and the areas that came through strongly as the main source of irritation are supervision on the transport system, the catering provision and uniform. We are continuing to work on our performance in these areas. We will be re-issuing the School Bus Policy and Bus Monitors’ Code of Conduct at the beginning of next term and we will also be introducing a programme of observations next term to support our LAs in their supervisory work. You will find the contact details for the Head of Academic Support Ms Kerry Li on the code of conduct and we would appreciate any feedback positive and negative to be communicated to her as soon as possible. School catering is always a complicated service to provide. Many people seem very happy with the food provision but there are concerns that periodically arise and in order to have regular communication about the provision we have decided to reintroduce primary and secondary food committees which we have run successfully in previous years. Finally we are presently in conversation with our uniform supplier and I am grateful to those parents who have given up time to help us feed back to them about some of the quality issues that have arisen. We are confident that we will be able to make a significant impact on the reduction and in some cases removal of these irritants and I am grateful to parents for their support and feedback in these areas.
The second term is rapidly coming to an end but there has been no slowing of pace in terms of learning inside and outside the classroom. Our international week provides a fitting high profile end to what has been a very successful term in so many ways.
