Our Principal Writes: Potential School Closure Due to International Asia Conference

12 mei 2014

Dear Parents,

This blog post is about a potential school closure on 20 and/or 21 May 2014.

We are aware of the 4th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) that will be held in Shanghai on 20 and 21 May.  During this period, high-level delegates from many countries will be traveling around the city.

Municipal officials have announced that all local schools will be closed on 21 May. The Shanghai Education Commission (SEC) has acknowledged that international schools may wish to remain open, however, there are many unknown variables regarding road closures to traffic in certain areas of the city that may significantly impact student and staff travel on both 20 and 21 May.

We are hoping to gather more information about the potential impact of this conference on our bus service and whether we will need to close on one or both of these days. The complex bus route system is not easily altered, and thus we need some extra time to study the impact of potential road closures.

Also, please note that both GCSE and IB examinations will be conducted at BISS Puxi on these dates AND WILL BE HELD WHETHER OR NOT THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED.

We hope to have additional information to you early next week, but please understand that for security reasons the government is providing very limited information at this time. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Kevin Foyle, Principal
