Year 8 students learning about tradtional yurts in Inner Mongolia, Year 9 have arrived safely in Vietnam and Year 12 exploring the Royal Palace and working with local children at the ISF school.
Year 7
Year 7 arrived in Shenzhen today after a smooth journey and without any problems. We arrived to heat, humidity and sunshine. We are headed down to the beach this evening. Some of the students are camping under the stars tonight and having a camp cooked meal and the rest of the year group is enjoying games on the beach after dinner in a hotel restaurant.
Year 8
We arrived safely and after a 2.5 hour drive from the airport we found ourselves surrounded by beautiful grasslands. We had lunch and then found our yurts. The afternoon was spent learning about how the traditional yurts are set up and dismantled (students worked in teams to figure out the best way). After dinner, we are looking forward to a sunset walk. A great first day!
Year 9
Today we went to Madagui. There was quite a bit of rain! The students did some jeep riding around the rainforest and had a go at white water rafting. We are about to go on a night trek which we're all excited about!
We've had a great first 2 days and everyone is doing great. I'll give you a brief recap of what we've been doing so far.
Year 12
Group 2 had an early start and visited the Royal Palace. Then the groups were split in 2 and headed back to two different ISF schools where they taught lessons to the students. Before the students started their lessons each group visited the community where the students from the school live and saw some of their families. A very humbling experience as this was the worst slum I've ever seen. We returned back to the school to teach the lessons - football & rugby, art & crafts, break dancing and chinese, etc. The students were brilliant!
We have one more day here tomorrow and then we will head off to the Camp (where Group 1 is currently) and they will come here and continue working with the school.
