Christmas Concert

10 december 2015

This term we have had more musical ensembles rehearsing than ever before in preparation for our annual Christmas Concert.

With around 150 students performing, it was set to be a busy and enjoyable evening and our musicians did not disappoint us.

The concert started with 3 of our choirs, joined by the congregation, singing O Come all ye Faithful, to get us all in the Christmas spirit. The audience were then inspired by our KS1 Choir who looked and sounded extremely professional and even had some actions in their performance. Next was our newly formed KS2 Percussion ensemble who have been working with Mr Griffiths on their own rhythmic march composition. It was a delight to see so many young performers of stage, most of them for the first time. Other newly formed ensembles included our Barbershop Quartet, formed from our GCSE music students, a student led Year 10 ensemble performing a well-known John Legend song as well as BISSVOX – a large secondary choir for our older students were performed extremely enthusiastically. This concert saw a dramatic increase in the number of sting players on stage, with both Senior Strings and Junior Strings performing a selection of Christmas favourites, as well as our regular performers - the harmonious voices of KS3 Singing Ensemble and our superstar KS2 Choir. A true highlight, however, was our concert band performing at the end of the concert. Mr Reeve has been working hard with the wind and brass players throughout primary and secondary to produce a large ensemble who performed some more Christmas treats as well as a rousing rendition of Pirates of the Caribbean.

All the students involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves which was evident from the smiles on their faces whilst they were performing. A massive thank you to all the staff involved backstage, front of house and of course our wonderful music team. Merry Christmas!
