A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a Hit!

20 maart 2015

The secondary school Performing Arts department has been working hard over the last few months to put on their version of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Keeping the essence of a Shakespearean play, they used the traditional language and focused on enhancing the ridiculousness of each situation to heighten the comedy. But in juxtaposition to this, they also incorporated contemporary dance into the performance, highlighting the mystery and magic that is prevalent throughout the play and creating a perfect contrast to the comedy of the text.

“I've had such a fantastic time: months of rehearsing, a million laughs and almost a few tears but we got there in the end” said Helena Smith, Year 12, who played the mischievous sprite Puck. “It's been truly amazing working with everyone. I'll miss playing Puck!”

A parent in the audience was truly impressed with the quality of the performance, commenting, “Who needs to go and spend lots of money on theatre tickets down town, when you can come and see such high quality at BISS Puxi?!”
