The Red Carpet Was Out For The BFAs 2015

27 april 2015

Last Thursday saw our annual public screening of final coursework films by our talented Film and Media students: the BFAs, or BISS Film Awards. Mr Ekkel, Head of Media tells us all about the event…

Students at the BFAs last week.

An audience of over 150 joined us in the Auditorium to enjoy our work. Our Year 11 students made Film Noir and documentary films, which included Dead Men Don't Tell, starring Gill Walmesley, and documentaries looking at topics ranging from cats to kickboxing to the BISS Lions swimming team.

The audience were dazzled by Jack Jiang's sci-fi short film ‘Imagine’ and by the beautiful cinematography in his sister Jenny's first narrative film ‘Friends, Lovers or More’. We saw an early preview of a documentary currently being edited by some of our Year 10 Media students, which featured an on-camera interview with former England football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson!

Our Year 13 IB student Final Films were very well received, showcasing the hard work and talent of our departing Year 13s. These films took several months to plan, film and edit and represent 50% of the students' final grades in the IB Film course.

Our beautiful and much-coveted BFA trophies were issued towards the end of the night by a range of guest presenters, including Mr Lancaster and Mrs White. Mr Share handed over the final award of the evening - the Best Film Award. Voted for by the audience, the prize went to ‘Paper, Wish’ - written and directed by Diana Shi, edited by Khashi Tahamtan and with sound & music by Isabella Chen. A deserving winner!

Many thanks to all who attended for making this a special night for our students. I was incredibly proud of the high-quality of the work on display and the evening will hopefully send our Year 11 and 13 students off with a spring in their step!
