Well-being: Launching The Parent Exchange

21 januari 2016

This week, we launched The Parent Exchange which is a forum where parents can share and support each other in the skills and experiences of parenting.

  • Well-being

As parents we are ambitious for our children to flourish and as parents we face many common challenges as well as having some great strengths, skills and experiences we can share with others.  The idea of the Parent Exchange is to provide a forum where parents can share and support each other in the skills and experiences of parenting.

Many of you would have attended the talk given last year by Peshali Fernando from Shanghai United Family Hospital on bringing up teenagers.  We now want to build on this and have invited Peshali to return to BISS Puxi to work with us as part of our Well-being programme.

Peshali is a Clinical Psychotherapist and has extensive experience with families, adolescence and children. She specialises in mental health and particularly the areas of anxiety and depression, cross-cultural issues, anxiety over school and adjustment disorders. Her family is now grown up but Peshali understands from a professional as well as a personal point of view the challenges of being a parent.  She is enthusiastic about the whole community approach we are taking on Well-being and keen to support us in our journey.

To this end we now invite parents of secondary students to find out more about how our Well-being programme is developing and to welcome parents of secondary students to the first of our Parent Exchanges which will be held on Thursday 28 January from 19:00-20:00 in Stage One, the primary school.

With the support of Peshali we will identify our concerns and discover that there are many different parenting styles and no one style fits all particularly as children grow through adolescence and into adulthood.

From the event we hope to gather your thoughts on further topics related to parenting that can be discussed at future forums of ‘The Parent Exchange.’

After Chinese New Year we will also be running a similar event for parents of primary school students.

If you would like to reserve a place, please email me here.
