The Global Challenge 2016

28 januari 2016

As a member of Nord Anglia Education, our students benefit from the opportunities that working together as a group of schools can bring.  A very good example of how our students enjoy being part of a group of schools is through the Global Campus, which can be accessed through logging into their moodle accounts here.

  • Global Challenge

Global Campus connects our 32,000 students around the world to collaborate, discuss and learn together every day. The website is constantly being updated with exciting new content, so please do have a look around and encourage your son or daughter to get involved.  There are areas dedicated to specialist subjects in the secondary curriculum, with quizzes and activities that provide a rich cerebral challenge for our students.

Each year, we run a Global Challenge across the school.  The challenge for our students in 2016 is to build a Rube Goldberg machine that will run for between sixty and ninety seconds.  You will soon be very familiar with Rube Goldberg machines, once your children start to work on them. They are complicated inventions that are created to perform a simple operation, or an everyday task. There are many examples of Rube Goldberg machines that you will have seen in the media, but some good examples include OK Go’s This Too Shall Pass, Wallace and Grommit’s Snoozatron and the amazing Audri's Rube Goldberg Monster Trap. You can access these through the Global Campus with your son or daughter, where there are some other excellent examples.

Over the next three months, we will be working with students from across both schools to complete our own Rube Goldberg machine. The challenge encourages creativity, collaboration, perseverance and resilience.  It may not work first time! Younger pupils will work under the guidance of our IB students and we will be providing regular Tweets on how they are progressing, from planning, building and testing through to completion. Whilst this is an excellent challenge that encourages our students to be ambitious, it will also be a hugely enjoyable and fun experience.
