It was great to see the children rising to the challenge of taking on the role of teacher and getting their eager visitors involved in their learning!
Each Year 3 classroom took on a different aspect of our creative curriculum, from sketching and text mapping, to rock cycles and databases, not to forget trace fossils and KAHOOT!
As you walked in and out of the Year 3 classrooms, you could see confident children leading parents and friends through the corridor of exciting experiences. Some were busy making trace fossils and recording their learning on PicCollage, whilst others were taking a quiet moment in amongst the hustle and bustle to sketch as a family. Ellis in 3W said after the crowds had disappeared, “Mum and I sketched a Stegosaurus and I taught her how to use cross hatching and stippling.”
Lots of creative text maps were devised for paragraphs of factual information and there was a real sense of focus in the database room. “My favourite part of the showcase was the database room because it had my favourite topic, ‘Greek Monsters’. My favourite monster is Cerberus the 3 headed dog” Andika 3C
Other groups of children led visitors round the rock cycle and rocks can change over time. “I enjoyed the showcase because I felt like a rock with my Mom, going to the Earth’s interior, river, clouds, ocean, volcano and soil.” Bryce 3C
However, one of the favourite moments for everyone was the online Kahoot quiz! Teams of parents and children joined together to compete for a top ranking place in the class dinosaur quiz. Cheers of celebration and the chatter of collaborating teams could be heard throughout Year 3, whilst inside the classrooms you could see the determination and concentration on each and everyone's faces. As commented by Noah’s mum in 3L, “I thought I knew the answer, and then there were lots of choices. It was tricky!”
The children loved having their families with them in school, to share with them their exciting school experiences and proudest achievements. Alex Gilmore’s mum reported back to Ms Leese, “We learnt a lot today!”
A great event thanks to the hard work of the children, Year 3 team and the enthusiasm of all the parents.
