Carrying lanterns to light their way, swords for protection, handmade goods to trade and decorative banners, Year 5 students took their first steps along BISS PUXI’s very own Silk Road. As was the case for the original traders on the Silk Road, the journey was both long and challenging. Despite facing attacks from bandits, navigating blinding sandstorms, emergency repairs to damaged goods and assembling as well as dismantling their shelters, Year 5 arrived safely at the Souk.
Once inside trading was swiftly underway. Pom Pom chickens in a variety of colours, freshly baked bread, rare pieces of decorative jewellery, the finest handmade clay pots and highly skilled woven fabric were frantically changing hands between the traders.
As trading closed Mr Clayden presented certificates to some of the children, in recognition of their efforts at the Souk. A great event thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and the teachers. Year 5 are now ready to find out even more about this fascinating historical topic.
