"When I was 17, my brother and I were on a return trip from a basketball game. The team stopped for dinner and everyone left the bus, except my brother and I. We didn't have the means to have dinner with the rest of the team. We stayed back on the bus. A few minutes later one of the dads came on board. I remember the conversation like it happened yesterday. He said, "It would make me very happy if you would allow me to buy you dinner and join the rest of the team. No one else has to know. All you have to do to thank me is do the same thing for another great kid in the future." It stuck in my heart forever. When I reflect back on all the risks I've taken in my life and everything I've endured to make this company what it is, it's because of the gift I received that day. I've wanted nothing more than to create a vehicle where I can do the same thing for other kids who are just like me on that bus."
I am writing to appreciate those teenagers of Year 12, who have been helping my child for almost a year in assisting her study in several subjects. I must write down their names as I hope to thank them from my heart for their sincere help and support to my child. They are Chelsea, Jack, Ann, Erika, Kin, Jason and Ajay.
Same as the storyteller who wrote the above story, I and my child are deeply touched by the enthusiasm and the highly responsible and professional way of help. It not only shows their high calibre in academic area, but their kindness, patience and care also influence my child to become more confident than before. As a parent, I see a very positive progress in my child in both her academics and personality.
When people are getting older, we tend to be very cautious about helping others. I am certainly one of them. Helping others is no more a natural matter but always with the thinking of reward, return, benefit, fairness or was simply treated as a mission. I am ashamed when I see how the youngsters behave in helping my child as the intention to help is pure and natural. They are certainly the role models of BISS and truly 'helping others thrive'.
Lastly, I hope to thank the parents as well for their understanding, support and empathy. Also, I hope this true story happened amongst these teenagers affects the others and the positive energy is to be inherited. It is more fortunate on a giver than a receiver.
