With the weather getting a bit colder, please be sure that your child’s extra set of clothes are suitable for the autumn weather. For example, change t-shirts for long sleeved shirts and shorts for pants.
- We are continuing with our collaborative project in our outdoor area, and it is transforming into a colourful and interactive wonderland. We would appreciate any old CD’s that we could use for decorating. Thank you in advance!
- Lunches - Please be aware that SLETO take the numbers for lunches from the school register at 9.30am every day. If you are taking your child out of school after 9.30am please inform SLETO in advance so that you are not charged on that day.
- After School Contact System - New information about this has been added to the website to help at http://www.nordangliaeducation.com/our-schools/shanghai/puxi/after-school-contact-system. Please ensure that your child’s class teacher is aware of any changes to regular going home arrangements early in the day by writing details in your child’s Communication Book.
- Security: Thank you to all of you who have applied for our new security badges. Due to some technical difficultes the production of the badges has been delayed. We are working as fast as possible to get the badges to you. Thank you for your patience.
This week we will finish off our Jungle theme with a Nursery animal boogie safari! Using the information they have learned so far, the children will be encouraged to create their own props to wear and use when we go on safari, for example, animal masks, safari costumes, walkie talkies, binoculars and cameras. We will encourage them to use a selection of different materials. Then we will stomp, shake, growl, hiss, click and tip toe our way around the unit presenting our props to our classmates and friends. Throughout the week the children will practise asking each other questions to review their animal fact knowledge. What animal makes a trumpeting noise? How does a snake move? Which jungle animals have stripes? What do giraffes eat?
Key Vocabulary: animal facts, safari, listen, question
During phonics this week the children will be introduced to different action songs . We will be adding body percussion to our songs -using our hands to clap, pat our knees or stamp our feet- while performing to the beat! The children will be encouraged to listen attentively and change the body sound with each musical phrase or sentence. We will also rehearse the rhyme Roly Poly practising how we can change our voices to become fast, slow, high and low.
Key vocabulary : body, voice, fast, slow, high, low, clap, stamp, pat
“There’s a rumble in the jungle, there’s a whisper in the trees; the animals are waking up and rustling the leaves!” The children will be introduced to rhyming with the story ‘A rumble in the jungle’ by Giles Andeae and David Wojtowycz. We will go on a rhyming safari and meet everyone from the elphing elephant to the gangly giraffe, and maybe even the terrible tiger.
5 little monkeys jumping on the bed, 1 fell off and bumped his head! Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,”No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”. We will also use rhyming in our maths to practise counting down from 5, recognising numerals 0 to 5, and introduce the concept of one less.
EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN
Taking things outside! As we mentioned in our messages, we are continuing with our collaborative project in our outdoor area. The children will be focusing on using DVDs to create hanging decorations that we will use to practise our counting skills. We will also put our imaginations and creativity to work when designing things out of boxes and other recycled materials.
Prettig weekend gewenst!
We are going to talk about animals and counting numbers from 1-5 this week.
Songs: Three Bears三只熊（san zhi xiong）
Key Words: count 数一数 (shu yi shu); how many 有几只 (you ji zhi)
