This week in Literacy we are creating our own versions of the famous myth Theseus and the Minotaur. This will focus on the children applying skills they have been taught last week on connectives, adverbs, the past tense, and creating action and suspense through sounds and dialogue. We look forward to some imaginative and engaging pieces of writing!
This week we will be covering fractions. This will start by recognizing, reading and writing simple fractions. They will then be ordering and comparing fractions, including non-unit fractions (5/5, 2/5, 4/5) and unit fractions (1/2, 1/4., 1/6 and 1/3). The children will also investigate equivalents 4/12 = 2/6 and fractions of quantities, i.e. ½ of 24 = 12 or 3/5 of 15 = 9
This week, the children will be continuing our science topic on rocks. This will cover making igneous rocks, discovering the rock cycle and finally concluding with a Kahoot quiz to see how their knowledge and understanding has developed over the course of this science focus.
In PHSCE this week the children will be looking at recognizing their worth as individuals, by identifying positive things about themselves and their achievements. We will be focusing on identifying the mistake we make, how they can be put right and set personal goals for the future.

Dit was het nieuws
Het nieuwe thema heet: ‘Dit was het nieuws’ en gaat....inderdaad, over het nieuws. De kinderen verdiepen zich in de wondere wereld van de journalistiek waarbij nieuwsberichten, radioverslagen, onderzoek en kranten de revue passeren.
Grammatica en spelling
Naar aanleiding van de uitslag van de Cito-toetsen zal er in het programma meer ruimte ingebouwd worden voor spelling en grammatica. Ook zetten wij vroeger in op werken met het werkwoord en werkwoordsvervoeging.
Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette
Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).

Next week we will be starting our new topic based around Spanish food and snacks. Pupils will be looking at some typical Spanish food and learning the vocabulary for this.
Homework this week is to carry out some research on famous Spanish dishes.
Year 3 / 4 French – Mrs. Rae
Next week in French, we will be continuing our unit on food and snacks. We will also be learning numbers 20-40 and the months of the year in French.
Homework this week is to read the sentences in French and then draw the correct food item.
