- Science Week - 23-27 May
- Year 4 Explorers Event - Friday 17 June
This week, the children will be entering the exciting world of playscripts! The children will read and act out simple and known scripts to initially familiarise themselves with the genre. We will then analyse the features of playscripts and investigate how and why they differ to standard narratives. Following that, we will link our knowledge to Themed Learning and construct a playscript linked to going on an expedition.
This week the focus will be on solving word problems, using mainly addition and subtraction. The children will be expected to start to recognise the correct operation for themselves and they will be assisted with strategies to enable this. Both one and two step problem solving will be covered and the children will be encouraged to explain their reasoning and answers clearly. They will work with all metric measures and decimal and fractional notation to support and extend their calculation skills. Investigations will centre on calculating and finding relationships and patterns when working with calculations.
In Themed Learning this week we are continuing on our expedition to an amazing new place in the world. The next part of the adventure will focus on the physical features of our chosen place. Using this research we will need to decide what equipment will be needed to be able to survive. This will be extended even further when we start to look at the cost of different equipment to see how much it would be for the specialist equipment needed for survival. Our scientific findings will then be used for a design and make project. The key idea will be to design a pair of mittens that will be made of a material suitable to keep our hands warm. Our sewing skills will be put to the test! In PSHCE we will be discussing working together as a team how important this is.
Students will continue to create computer coding to create games. Over the rest of this term, classes will work with Lego Wedo on a rotation, to create adventure activities to accompany their stories. They will learn to use sensors and apply skills to create their own models.
