Dragon Boat Festival Holiday: School will be closed on Thursday 9 June.

MESSAGES

  • Year 4 Explorers Event - Friday 17 June - 9.00 - 10.30.
  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottle to avoid items getting lost in school. Every child needs to have a water bottle to bring in each day. No glass containers please.
  • In the Summer Term, please ensure children wear sun hats on hot days to protect them when playing outside.
  • Class Party for Year 4 will be on Tuesday 28 June, 2:00 – 3:30 in the respective classrooms. More information to follow!
  • BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming/ECAs – Term 3 last week will be 13 June.

LITERACY

This week the children will be learning about debating. This will build on the work done earlier in the year regarding written arguments. This time, we will think about the language of debating, and how to structure arguments and responses. Additionally, we will look in depth at how to structure a debate and the roles each team member. Finally, we will hold a class debate about a pertinent issue.

MATHS

This week the focus will be on shape and space. The children will review and consolidate their understanding of the properties of 2D shape. They will also review the names of angles. There will be a range of investigations and puzzle solving activities designed to help the children become more familiar with the specific vocabulary connected to this topic. They will work with grids and coordinates and create symmetrical patterns, reflecting in the horizontal and vertical.

THEMED LEARNING

‘Explorers’

The children will finish designing and making their shelter for their expedition using a range of materials. They will need to make it sturdy and stable using a mixture of clay, string and glue! They will then be learning how to use a compass and try to navigate their way around a trail. Using this knowledge they will then devise their own trail with partners and try each other’s out! To add to their survival skills, they will learn a range of knots and use this to try to build stable shelters on a larger scale in groups.

PSHCE

We will discuss and learn about the range of jobs carried out by people.  

COMPUTING

Students will continue to create computer coding to create games. Over the rest of this term, classes will work with Lego Wedo on a rotation, to create adventure activities to accompany their stories. They will learn to use sensors and apply skills to create their own models.

Literacy: debate, argument, response, counter-argument, conclusion.

DUTCH

Cito-toetsen

De leerlingen van KS2 werken aan hun Cito-toetsen. We nemen de toetsen begrijpend lezen (groep 4), woordenschat, spelling en de avi-leestesten (groep 4 t/m 7) af. De toetsen vinden plaats tijdens de reguliere lessen.

Superhelden

We werken verder aan het thema ‘Echte Superhelden’. We lezen verder in Per Ongeluk(!) en denken na over gedragspatroongrafieken en het vertalen van het verhaal in een schoenendoos.

Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette

Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).

MFL

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week the children will continue to listen to popular songs and nursery rhymes in Spanish.  They will highlight key vocabulary that they already know and investigate how the phrases are constructed. 

Homework this week will be to find and listen to a different nursery rhyme in Spanish online.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Sutton
Pupils will be continuing with their revision project, which they are just started this week.
Homework is consolidation of numbers.

Year 3 / 4 French – Miss Rae
In French next week, we will be starting a new unit, ‘On mange!’ We will be shopping for food and asking and saying how much something costs.
Homework this week is to complete the weather words and then match to the picture.

Year 3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood
We will continue to talk about our free time and hobbies. The focus this week will be on negative verb formation and being able to describe what people don’t do in their free time. The children will make short role plays to reinforce vocabulary and find opposing sentence structures.
Homework: complete the sentences on activities using the words in the boxes.
