Week Beginning 15 February 2016

Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

In Literacy this week we will be beginning a new, exciting topic on mystery stories. We will be delving deep into this fascinating genre, encountering many red-herrings, twists, double-crosses and roguish behaviour from devious villains. There will be investigations galore and Sherlock Holmes himself may make an appearance.

This week in Maths we will be looking at Geometry. We will investigate co-ordinates and how to translate shapes across all 4 quadrants. We will use this to re-enforce our understanding of negative numbers and 2D shapes. We will build to investigating symmetry within the shapes that we plot on our axis.

This term our Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. As we continue with our project we will begin looking at batik in art, creating beautiful and intricate patterns using hot wax and dyes. The children will move through a design process, learning from the work of professional artists.

In PSHCE this week we will continue to focus on fostering new relationships as we have had a number of new students join our year group, creating rules and expectations for the classes and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead.

Literacy – red-herrings, twists, double-crosses, evidence, clues

Maths– axis, translate, reflect, square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, triangle

Themed Learning- batik, dye, wax, wax bath

Koken, bakken, braden...
