Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.
In Literacy this week we will be moving onto the genre of persuasion. We will analyse a range of texts to see how the writers attempt to persuade the reader. We will look at some critically acclaimed adverts and pick out the language that makes them so effective. We will build to writing our own persuasive letter. As part of our ongoing drive to improve our grammar, we will also be looking at the active and passive tense and how this too can play a part in persuasive writing.
This week in Maths we will be investigating some of the most challenging number operations using long multiplication and long division to solve word problems. We will also be looking at strategies to make our calculations quicker and more accurate to help with mental maths. We will then finish the week with an investigation using what we have learned.
This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the third week we will be investigating some of the science behind water quality and purity. This will involve an investigation into how to remove impurities from water and how these are harmful to human health.
In PSHCE this week we will continue to focus on fostering new relationships as we have had a number of new students join our year group, creating rules and expectations for the classes and how to work together successfully. We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead.

Koken, bakken, braden... Kun jij het spreekwoord raden?
Het nieuwe thema van KS2 staat in het teken van koken en alles wat daarmee te maken heeft (recepten, spijsvertering, het restaurant, ingrediënten, etc.) en de daaraan gekoppelde beeldspraak. We hebben de spreekwoorden van de vorige weken herhaald.
De Citotoetsen zijn begonnen. Het onderdeel begrijpend lezen hebben we als eerste gedaan. Komende week komen de onderdelen, technisch lezen, spelling en woordenschat aan bod. Oefen met de woordkaartjes van ‘Spelling Laat Zien’ (toegestuurd in de laatste nieuwsbrief) nog een keer de categorieën.
In verband met de Cito-toetsen is er deze week geen huiswerk. De leerlingen mogen natuurlijk wel de (woordenschat)oefeningen van Nieuwsbegrip doen, de spellingkaartjes van ‘Laat Zien’ en de Staal-app.

Year 6 French – Miss Caldwell
This week we are going to be cooking up some French culinary delights! Bon appetit!
Homework will be to revise vocabulary from previous units.

Next week we will work on acting out ordering food in a cafe on Thursday and students should bring their IPADs. We will also continue working on what is in my city.
Homework this week is to make a poster with the building names around my area – write a paragraph explaining what are these buildings and what you do there.
Year 6 Spanish - Ms Watson
Next week the children will be beginning a new unit about where they live. They will be asking someone where they live, say where I live and name some European countries.
For homework, they will play a simple dice game that will help them to practise conjugating the verb ‘vivir’- to live.
