Week Beginning 12 February 2018

School begins again on Monday 26 February – The Year 1 team hope you had a wonderful Chinese New Year holiday.


  • School Uniform - Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular, please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.

In Literacy this week we are looking at the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Children will be sequencing the story and breaking the story up into a story mountain. Finally, children will have the opportunity to write the story independently, focusing on correct use of punctuation.

In Maths this week we will be learning about multiplication. Children will be looking mainly at multiplication through repeated addition. We are also continue to learn to count in 2s, 10s and 5s.

As our theme study of ‘Around the World in 80 days’ continues, this week we will be looking at Australia. We will be looking at aboriginal “Dreamtime” stories and children will have the chance to explore adjectives and verbs to describe Australian animals.

We are continuing with coding for the coming weeks. The children will now look at inputting information with an increased independence. Within the unit the children will be looking at developing the movement of objects operated from the instructions that they decide.

Our PSHE theme this week is COMPASSION. Children will be learning what compassion means and about mindfulness and empathy.  Children will be exploring what empathy means and in what situations we feel empathy and how we can help in those situations.
