Staff Profile: Daniel McKee

Daniel McKee

Head of School, Metropolitan School of Panama

Daniel McKee is Head of School at the Metropolitan School of Panama.

Daniel McKee grew up in New Jersey and attended Brown University in Rhode Island before beginning a long career in education. He first taught in inner city schools in California before becoming a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, where he trained young teachers at a regional Teacher Training College. He learned Spanish there which he counts as a tremendous enrichment in his life. He went on to teach social studies, literature and humanities in New York City public schools for 10 years, earning a Masters Degree in Bilingual Education at Columbia University Teachers College and later, a post-masters credential in School Administration and Supervision.

After over a decade in New York City, Daniel began a new phase of his career in international schools. Daniel worked as a teacher in Guatemala and then as a school principal in Thailand and Spain before arriving to Panama in 2008 as the High School Principal of the International School of Panama. He served for six years in that role at ISP, overseeing a period of intensive growth at the school. After a brief stint with Enseña por Panama and Teach for All, helping to effect change and reform in public schools of great need, he was appointed as Head of School at the Colegio Isaac Rabin, a small private, Jewish, IB school in Panama.

He holds a B.A. in History from Brown University, a Postgraduate credential in School Administration and Supervision from Hunter College, and a M.A., Bilingual Education from Columbia University.
