Blankets for Syria

05 March 2015

BIS Abu Dhabi PTA is currently working with Souriyat Across Borders (Women Across Borders). This is a non-profit organisation that assists Syrian refugees through shelter assistance, education, women’s workshops, and recovery services for disabled and/or injured refugees. It’s a charity that is close to the school’s heart, with one of our parents being a founding member.

What’s the story?

Many refugees are being housed at makeshift camps in and around Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon and are faced with dire conditions. At this time of year there are sub-zero temperatures and snow on the ground, and the refugees have little means of protection with poor shelters and lack of resources.

The next delivery of donations will be transported from Abu Dhabi in April and will be delivered direct to Camp Zataari by the charity. As a PTA, we are asking students and their families to help by donating un-wanted shoes, toys, clothes and blankets.

The Blanket Project

With warmth being one of the greatest concerns for infants and children on camp, the PTA and our school have purchased 60 additional plain blankets. But we wanted to make the gesture more personal, so we’ve asked each class to get creative and decorate and design their very own fabric block to be appliqued onto the blankets. The blankets will then be given to Souriyat Across Borders and transported to Camp Zataari, in Jordan.

Together, with your help, we can make a difference and help those in need.
