For their first lesson, they had an invigorating introduction to the study of Sciences at post-IGCSE level either participating in the familiar Sciences of Physics, Biology or Chemistry, or undertaking a biomechanics practical in Sports, Exercise and Health Science or even, in Environmental Systems and Sciences, trying to answer the question ‘What can 28,000 rubber ducks and 5 million Lego pieces tell us about the oceans and our environmental systems?’ The rest of the day was spent exploring the addictive side of human nature in Psychology, analyzing how the Mass Media shape and perpetuate stereotypes of social groups in English and debating whether Imagination or Reason give us a more accurate picture of the world around us in Theory of Knowledge.
The mood of the day was bolstered by the students’ ability to shed their normal school uniform in favour of a more professional business dress, as befits the top tier students at BIS Abu Dhabi, not to mention the joy experienced by joining the distinguished queue at The Hub; relishing the coveted privilege of ordering a Mocha-Caramel Latte!
