Prior to moving to BIS Abu Dhabi I worked at Cairo English School, an international school specialising in the British National Curriculum. I spent two years teaching Year One and one year teaching Year Three. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and enjoyed many professional development experiences which have helped me to become a very enthusiastic and well rounded practitioner.
I applied to work at BIS Abu Dhabi because of the reputation of Nord Anglia Education is very impressive and BIS Abu Dhabi in particular appeared to be a very forward thinking establishment who aim to provide a true 21st Century education for its students. The school’s approach to education is also perfectly aligned with my personal teaching philosophy. Finally, I am impressed with the true international nature of the school, encouraging its students to be respectful, considerate global citizens of the future.
I have been married to my husband Paul for three years. Paul is also a teacher and works within the PE department at BIS Abu Dhabi. We are both very fitness orientated people. I like to run as much as I can in my spare time and I regularly work out at a CrossFit gym. I grew up in North Devon, England but I met Paul when I moved to Cardiff, Wales to go to University. He is Welsh and I am very patriotic for both nations and needless to say Wales vs. England matches are generally a little tense in our household!
I have been involved in and competed in several sports growing up. I was a swimmer for 15 years and I competed at National level. I have also danced for most of my life. I have done ballet, tap and jazz, performing at several local productions over the years and most recently I competed at the Dance World championships in Orlando, Florida in summer 2012 with my dance troupe Fenix. My personal aspirations included competing in a CrossFit competition and running a half-marathon.
BIS Abu Dhabi is a very unique school. The school’s approach to learning takes into account the very fast moving nature of the lives of children today. It moves with the times, recognising that we are preparing children for a future that we can’t possibly yet imagine. The school is mindful that we are also shaping children as people, helping them to become more globally minded and compassionate towards others, cultural differences and environmental issues. It is a very exciting school to be a part of and I am very proud to be a teacher here!
