Miss Perkins graduated from the University of Warwick in 2011 with a PGCE in Primary Education, after completing a BA Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies at the same institution. Prior to joining BIS Abu Dhabi in 2017, she taught in England and Northern Ireland.

I graduated from the University of Warwick in 2011 with a PGCE in Primary Education, after completing a BA Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies at the same institution.

Since graduating, I have had the pleasure of working across a wide range of student communities in a number of diverse settings. Exciting and challenging in equal measure, the opportunities that I have been lucky enough to experience so far have included teaching children from ages four through eleven; working with a large number of children with Special Educational Needs and for whom English is often a second language, and guiding class teachers’ in aspiring schools in Northern Ireland with effective pedagogical strategies to specifically raise standards in the classroom and improve overall student progress.

Pride in my work and a desire to continually develop my skills as a teacher and colleague led me to undertake further education in 2013, whereby I successfully completed a nationally recognised qualification as a ‘Specialist Teacher of Primary Mathematics.’ The skills and knowledge that I gained from this had a significant impact on my teaching practice and I am excited to apply these skills within the Foundation Stage 2 setting at BIS Abu Dhabi.

My teaching style focuses on the importance of ‘values’ alongside academic skills and I holistically endorse and enjoy teaching these necessary life skills alongside the key curriculum expectations. I am passionate about teaching and believe that educating future generations is a privilege and a challenge that should be met with creativity, patience, and enthusiasm. The emphasis placed on nurturing excellent relationships within BIS Abu Dhabi and creating a family community inspired me to apply for this school in particular as it is in keeping with my own personal ethos about successful teaching and learning.

Keen to develop my career in an international setting, I spent some time travelling in early 2017 to visit new countries in which to establish the next chapter of my teaching life, and I returned from my time away secure in my decision to join the teaching community in the UAE. Outside of school, I enjoy keeping fit by going to the gym, cycling and swimming. I also like to travel to new destinations as often as possible; some of my favourite places include Thailand, Cambodia, and Spain!
