I have been a mainstream class teacher with classes from junior infants to second class. I have taught in Gaelscoils throughout my career which consists of teaching children through the medium of a second language. This is an aspect of teaching I enjoy thoroughly. I am very proud of the standard my students reach, especially in the critical foundation year, their first year in school. I create an environment which is warm and welcoming to the studetnts as well as safe, enriching and beneficial to their education.
I describe my teaching style in the following way, “I believe that it is not what you do for the students but what you teach them to do for themselves that ensures that they will become capable and confident individuals”. I believe in mentoring and facilitating learning in the classroom with an active, fun approach and am passionate about ensuring that each student in my care reaches their own, unique full potential. I held a B post position in my last school and acted as vice principal for a six month period while covering maternity leave. Extra duties included policy writing, school planning and meetings with parents and school supports such as psychologists, school welfare board, etc. It is the high academic standards and the warm environment in BIS Abu Dhabi which attracted me to the school and it hasn't disappointed.
I have a keen interest in travelling and exploring new cultures. I have travelled extensively to date throughout North and South America, Australia, Asia, and Africa. I spent a summer volunteering in a school in Nairobi, Kenya. I am a creative person and enjoy the creative arts, music, visual art, drama and dance. I like to incorporate these interests in my teaching to further enhance learning. I also like to keep fit and by attending fitness classes and walking. I am bilingual and speak both English and Irish fluently.
