Year 1 Teacher

Mrs Loveridge gained a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from Southampton University in 1992.

I qualified in 1992 with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from Southampton University, specialising in teaching children aged 4-8 years old. I then taught for 16 years in a one form entry catholic school in Bridgend, South Wales. During my time there I taught all classes from Year 1 to Year 6; I piloted the new Welsh Foundation Phase curriculum for children aged 3-7 years, was the school’s PE, PSCHE and RE coordinator, became the Staff Development Officer and supported students and newly qualified teachers through their induction process. Leading the school through its Green Flag and Eco Schools awards was something I found really inspiring, as well as attending many Forest Schools’ courses.

I then moved into the independent sector at a prestigious Cathedral school in Cardiff where I was the Director of Early Years, overseeing the education and welfare of 170 infant pupils. Travelling abroad next, I relocated to the wonderful city of Abu Dhabi where I held the post of Year 1 Year Leader for six years at another British Curriculum school. I moved back to the UK in 2017, but the draw (and weather!) of Abu Dhabi was too strong; I am delighted to be back in Abu Dhabi.

My two sons Nathan and Samuel are my absolute world; Nathan will be starting University in Winchester in September and Sam will be starting in Year 10 at BIS Abu Dhabi. We are passionately Welsh – especially when the Six Nations or the Rugby World Cup come around! As a family we enjoy going to the theatre and particularly watching musicals. We try to get up to London’s West End every summer and one of our favourites has to be ‘Billy Elliott’. We love spending time in the outdoors, either playing golf or horse riding, which is a passion of mine. Swimming, skiing and visiting water parks, which is easy to do in the UAE, are also somethings we enjoy doing together.

I am passionate about teaching young children; ensuring that each child is treated as an individual and encouraging them to learn in a rich, safe, inclusive environment, inspired by the awe, wonder and mystery of the world around them.

I believe in educating the whole child, ensuring the acquisition of life skills. In BIS Abu Dhabi I have found a school that shares my vision. I have always aimed to provide children with the motivation to learn in a stimulating, rich environment. All children need to be encouraged to work to their full potential, to achieve success and to be happy; I aim to create opportunities in my classroom for every individual child to be the best that they can.
