I graduated with a BA Hons in Primary Education in my home city, at the Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006. I have worked primarily in Key Stage 2 and for the past 3 years have concentrated my efforts in Year 6. My recent post was in a school rich with pupils from different cultures and backgrounds. In fact, over 23 different nationalities were represented making it a truly global and diverse environment. I learnt a great deal from the pupils and their parents and this enhanced my passion for global citizenship. I believe that creating and maintaining excellent links is vital and that schools should be at the centre of every community.
During my tenure at my last school I co-ordinated PSHE, ICT, PE, Global Citizenship and ECO/Sustainable Education. I designed, gained funding for and oversaw the development of the school’s external areas to facilitate outdoor learning. This was a great success and had a real positive impact with all it's stakeholders.
My main specialist subjects are, Education for Sustainable Development for which I successfully gained the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag award on two occasions. Secondly, Global Citizenship. The school received International School status six years ago and this allowed me to join the jet set. I have led international residential trips to Iceland, Ireland, Spain, Gibraltar and most recently two trips to China. The pupils found these experiences most invaluable.
I practise my belief that every child is unique and I am a keen practitioner of the creative curriculum. I believe in pupils becoming independent learners and critical thinkers. I encourage pupils to be creative, reflective and to take ownership of their learning.
I am enjoting being part of the BIS Abu Dhabi team and making the most of the opportunities Nord Anglia has to offer. I enjoy sports, travelling and listening to music and immerse myself in what Abu Dhabi has to offer in terms of culture, tradition and leisure time activities.
