Rachel Dodwell

Year 4 Teacher

Ms Dodwell graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in German and History, and was then awarded a PGCE by Canterbury Christ Church University after completing the Teach First Leadership Development Programme.

I graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in German and History in 2015, during which time I also worked as a language assistant in Hamburg as part of the British Council Erasmus programme. There I worked with both primary and secondary students, as well as wrote English exam papers that were published across the state.

I was awarded a PGCE by Canterbury Christ Church University after completing the Teach First Leadership Development Programme in 2016, which offered excellent professional development with the aim of improving the standard of education in some of Britain’s toughest and most deprived schools.

Since completing the programme, I have worked as a teacher in both London and Cheshire, where I also took on the role of Design & Technology co-ordinator. However, my ambition has always been to teach abroad in an established international school and I was delighted to have joined BIS Abu Dhabi.

Originally from Liverpool, I have moved to Leeds, Hamburg, London and back again so am no stranger to moving away, although Abu Dhabi has been the biggest move yet. I am newly married and am joined in Abu Dhabi by my husband who works in advertising and is enjoying a few more sunny days than he saw in Manchester.

I enjoy cultural activities and, when living in London, loved to visit the V&A and National Portrait Gallery, spending much of my time attending different events and exhibitions across the city. I like to keep active by cycling at weekends, playing badminton or even just going to the gym. I have always loved travelling due to my interest in languages, history and different cultures and, of course, amazing food . In particular, I have spent a lot of time travelling across Germany, developing my German language skills and knowledge of the country’s history.

Like almost everyone from Liverpool, football and music heritage were instilled in me from a young age and I have always enjoyed going to concerts, discovering local bands and keeping up to date with the reds.

I am very excited to be teaching at BIS Abu Dhabi, working at a world class institution with amazing facilities alongside excellent teachers who have a wealth of experience, from whom I will be able to continue my professional development and improve as a teacher. I also bring my own ideas and energy to teaching at the school, which I feel are a good fit with the values and aspirations that Nord Anglia upholds. Most of all, I enjoy meeting the students, seeing them learn and excel and sharing many happy school memories with them.
