Whilst studying English Language & Communications at Swansea University, Mr. Hughes became interested in teaching whilst studying how to teach English as a foreign language. After completing his PGCE at Oxford Brookes University, he began teaching in a Primary School located in the centre of Birmingham. He has experience of working in year 5 & year 6.
In addition to his class teacher responsibilities, he had also formed part of the Middle Leadership team and the Senior Leadership team, working as an Assistant Head teacher. Working collaboratively is important and during his time as a teacher, Mr. Hughes likes to support other members of staff at school.
From Mr. Hughes:
I was born and raised in Birmingham, which is a city I am very fond of. I love numerous sports but football is a passion of mine and I enjoy playing football as often as I possibly can. As well as sport, I am a keen traveller as I believe experiencing different cultures and countries is an enriching experience. I recently returned from a year long trip where I explored countries such as Brazil, India, Sri Lanka and Bolivia. It was during my trip that I met my wife, who also happens to be Arabic. My trip concluded in the UAE and it was then that I knew that this was the place that I would like to live and work. I am also very passionate about reading. Reading is a way to escape, explore and take an adventure to anywhere in the world and beyond and I always ensure that this enthusiasm is transferred to children.
I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to work alongside such an experienced group of teachers. The school has an array of fantastic resources and puts children at the centre of their approach to learning. The school attracted me because of its aim to not only to have students reaching high academic standards but also to develop a lifelong passion for learning and a genuine interest in the world. The community centred approach has made me feel exceptionally welcome and clearly creates an environment which allows the students to flourish. The school stands out for its standard of education that it offers as well as the opportunities that are provided for all of its students.
