I grew up in Oklahoma and Minnesota in the United States and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. I later obtained a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University.
After 12 years of teaching a variety of Humanities subjects in Oklahoma and Arizona in the US, my wife, two children and I moved to Shanghai, China where I accepted a job teaching IB and IGCSE Economics along with Key Stage 3 Humanities. Teaching in China brought with it many firsts. It was our first post overseas, my first time teaching IB and our first experience with the British educational system.
After spending time teaching and exploring China, our family moved to Taiwan where I taught IB and IGCSE Economics and Business. Our travels then took us to southern Malaysia where I worked as the Head of Business and Economics at Marlborough College Malaysia.
The British International School in Abu Dhabi offers an opportunity for myself along with my family to continue to teach and learn in a British educational setting. I am excited to continue teaching in the IB and IGCSE systems. Being part of the Nord Anglia family of schools is another reason that I chose to work at the British International School in Abu Dhabi. The region also contains many opportunities for outdoor activities and travel which is an added bonus.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing and coaching basketball. I also love to wakeboard and waterski. Hiking is another of my passions and a few summers ago, my wife and I were able to hike the Grand Canyon in the US from rim to rim. This includes a hike down into the canyon and then up the other side and the distance is about the length of a marathon. It was a great accomplishment. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new areas and am excited to do this in and around the United Arab Emirates.
