I was born in Glasgow, Scotland and this is where I also attended school and university. After attaining a 2:1 in Pure Mathematics at Glasgow University I decided I would like to enter teaching and returned to study for a PGDE in education specialising in mathematics. After working for a few years as a class teacher in Glasgow I moved with my wife, who is also a teacher, to London.
In London I worked initially as a KS3 coordinator developing the curriculum and assessment systems as well as mentoring student and NQT teachers. Soon I moved on to become an Advanced Skills Teacher where I worked with SLT to develop whole school Professional Development and trained primary teachers in the Borough on the new Mathematics content added to the National Curriculum.
In 2014 I moved to Abu Dhabi as the Head of Senior Mathematics at a British school. In my time at this school, I took a relatively new department from their first set of results to having the best GCSE and A level results in the city, as well as an Outstanding rating from ADEK. Having taken the maths department as far as I could, I decided to look for a new challenge in my career and was immediately enthused by the role at BIS Abu Dhabi. I now very much enjoy delivering IB, and the excellent CPD opportunities afforded by being part of a global schools network.
In my spare time I keenly follow football, supporting Partick Thistle and playing whenever I get the chance, which is not often since my son was born! I also enjoy reading, whether for pleasure or to explore ways to improve myself as a teacher.
