Originally from North Wales, I graduated from University College London in 2002 with BSc SOREL (Statistics, Operational Research, Economics and a Language). After a year working in a firm of patent attorneys, I realised a desk job wasn’t for me and joined the inaugural year of Teach First in London, whose mission statement is “equality through education”.
I trained as a secondary Maths Teacher and later was Director of Mathematics Specialism at my age 3-18 school. I moved to Abu Dhabi in 2012 and taught maths at a British international school for 4 years, before my most recent UAE venture working for North Star on school trips and expeditions. BIS Abu Dhabi and Nord Anglia Education was a great next step for me, as the school and students value academic excellence alongside learning beyond the classroom.
Building people’s confidence in Maths and developing a deeper understanding of how everything links together is at the core of my teaching. I am not happy unless everyone leaves my classroom with a sense of achievement.
Beyond the classroom, I enjoy music, singing in a choir and going to gigs/concerts whenever opportunities arise. I love to be outdoors, off-road driving, hiking and scuba diving in my spare time.
I’ve grown to know BIS Abu Dhabi students and staff on International Award expeditions and Camp@School, and what stands out is that BIS Abu Dhabi students work together so well. They are kind to one another and encourage each other to do their absolute best. They’re also brave! Abseiling off the building is no mean feat!
