Virginie Aubert

MFL Teacher and Head of Year 8

Virginie began her teaching career when she moved from France to London in 2005, starting as a French Teaching Assistant where she fell in love with teaching.  Virginie then went on to complete a Masters Degree in Teaching & Learning before moving to Eygpt where is began her International teaching journey.

I always wanted to be a teacher. Despite securing a place in the prestigious Political Studies Institute of Bordeaux in 2003, which promised me an exciting career in politics or journalism, I decided to complete a BA English Civilisation, Language and Literature at the University of Toulouse Jean-Jaures instead. It did not take long after graduation for me to realise that I wanted to experience life abroad. I then decided to leave beautiful Southern France for rainy London in 2005, where I became a French Language Assistant in a large secondary school in Camden town. This is when and how I truly fell in love with Education, and made the life changing decision to permanently live in the UK and embark on a GTP course the following year. I trained at Bishop Challoner Catholic School in Birmingham, obtained QTS in July 2007 and secured my first post at The Forest School for Boys in Wokingham in 2007. I was promoted to Head of German in 2008. As I was completing my Masters in Teaching and Learning at Reading University in 2010, I moved to Essex to take up a new challenge as Head of a large MFL department at Alec Hunter Academy in Essex. I am extremely grateful for all the opportunities I had in the UK, and for crossing the path of so many talented, caring educators. But the grey skies and rainy days gradually became too much to handle, and I made the difficult decision to join the international education circuit. This is how I ended up, in 2013, taking over the Primary and Secondary MFL Departments at New Cairo British International School. My time in Egypt was, as one can imagine, eventful and adventure filled. Yet moving to this beautiful country to date the best decision I ever took, and I am grateful for all that Cairo taught me.

Ever since I entered the world of International Education, I have always hoped that one day I’d be part of the prestigious Nord Anglia family. As I already lived in the Middle East, it is quite naturally that I applied to work for BIS Abu Dhabi, for I share the school’s values, sense of community and passion for education.

I am certain that BIS Abu Dhabi will be the ideal environment to help me complete the Masters in Educational Leadership I am currently studying for part-time with the University of Dundee.

I have a keen interest in art and enjoy drawing whenever I can. I hope to be able to join an art class in Abu Dhabi and get an opportunity to perfect my skills. Keeping fit is also important to me, although I only took up running a couple of years ago. I have not tried anything beyond a half marathon yet, although my dream is to complete a full marathon one day. I am a keen charity runner. Last year I raised money for Breast Cancer Research, which made me immensely proud. I have every intention to renew the experience in the future. I have a passion for hiking, and absolutely loved walking the 798km of the Camino de Santiago last Summer – A fabulous experience!
