Monika Howes

FS2 Teacher

My name is Monika Howes, and I am from Australia. I completed my BA (Hons) in Sociology and Anthropology at LaTrobe University and a Bachelor of Social Work at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. I worked as a social worker in a community health setting, providing counselling and individual support, for eight years before my expat journey began.

In 2009 my husband and I moved to Beijing, and I began my career in education working as a whole school counsellor. I completed my PGCE at Nottingham University and have been fortunate to live in Dubai, Osaka, Beijing and Guangzhou, working in Early Years, KS1 and KS2. My husband and I have two lovely daughters aged 8 and 11 years old. As a family, we love to travel and feel fortunate to have so many opportunities to explore many beautiful countries and learn about many different cultures. We love the outdoors, especially riding our bikes, walking, swimming and exploring new places.

I believe a respectful classroom environment, where children feel safe and secure, is vital to childhood development. Creating a caring and happy environment will help children feel confident to share their ideas, values and attitudes, while developing their independence. I have worked with the Nord Anglia family in Beijing and Guangzhou and I am thrilled to be continuing the journey in NAISAK in Qatar.
