I have been fortunate enough to have worked both in Ireland and the UK in my short time as a qualified teacher. I first took the steps to become a primary school teacher when I went to Stranmillis University College in Belfast and after 4 wonderful years I received my BEd degree. Initially after qualifying I took the decision to undertake supply work for a year in order to broaden my educational horizons and learn from the many different classroom practices that I would become exposed to. I took this knowledge with me to England where I undertook and completed my induction year taking a lovely year 6 class. I then decided the time was right to return home to Ireland and I was fortunate enough to receive a call from a school I had previously worked in to undertake a 6-month contract working with a composite class of Year 4 and Year 5 which I happily agreed to. I have always been eager to travel and see what the world has to offer so when I decided I would like to work abroad and the offer came from NAISAK, there was no way I was going to turn down that opportunity after all the lovely things I had heard about the school.
I am a 29-year-old who enjoys the simple things in life. I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my wife and appreciate the adventures that we undertake together. She is my number one supporter when it comes to running and has followed me to various locations throughout Europe as I have run my marathons including Rotterdam, Krakow and Dublin. Outside of running I enjoy long walks and some downtime reading. I’m also big fan of watching sport and movies. I want a life where I can enjoy and be present in all the little moments. My goals in life are to be the best husband I can be to my wife and do myself justice when running a marathon. Everything after that is of secondary importance.
I looking forward to a few things. Primarily, I am looking forward to meeting my new class. I understand that the pupils will come from all over the world and due to that, what I can learn from them might just outweigh what they will learn from me. Secondly, I am looking forward to working as part of the NAISAK team. My research has concluded that this is a school that cares thoroughly for both its pupils and staff and as such they excel in the professional development of their teachers and this is something I strongly want to take advantage of. As a student of life I feel moving to this school will educate me on many of life’s matters and through that will help me grow as a person both personally and professionally. I really am so excited to take this next step in life and look forward to working with the NAISAK team.
