I am now beginning my second year of teaching in Qatar and thus far I am enjoying the experiences that an International school has to offer. Working under the NAISAK umbrella has given me the opportunity to develop my teaching style, grow my subject knowledge and understand better how to get the best out of pupils with a range of abilities. Being part of the NAISAK team ensures that I will continue to mature and flourish as a teacher as well as be able to undertake excellent professional development opportunities.
I have been fortunate enough to have worked both in Ireland and the UK in my time as a qualified teacher. I first took the steps to become a primary school teacher when I went to Stranmillis University College in Belfast and after four wonderful years I received my BEd degree. Initially after qualifying I took the decision to undertake supply work for a year in order to broaden my educational horizons and learn from the many different classroom practices that I would become exposed to. I took this knowledge with me to England where I undertook and completed my induction year taking a lovely year 6 class. I then decided the time was right to return home to Ireland and I was fortunate enough to receive a call from a school I had previously worked in to undertake a two-term contract working with a composite class of Year 4 and Year 5 pupils which I happily agreed to. I have always been eager to travel and see what the world has to offer so when I decided I would like to work abroad and the offer came from NAISAK, there was no way I was going to turn down that opportunity after all the lovely things I had heard about the school.
I am a 31-year-old who enjoys the simple things in life. I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my wife and appreciate the adventures that we undertake together. Outside of running, I enjoy long walks and some downtime reading. I’m also a big fan of watching sport and movies.
