Clare Mulcahy

Year 5 Teacher

After completing a year of a Nursing degree and then spending later months as a Teaching Assistant at my local SEN college, I realised that I wanted to study to become a teacher. I studied a three year Primary Teaching degree at the University of South Wales, Newport. I completed three diverse placements in various schools, providing me with adequate experience in order to graduate in July 2015. I completed a nine week placement at Nord Anglia British School of Chicago, and also completed professional courses alongside my teaching degree.

I was born in South Wales, UK and lived with my parents and older sister. I have a passion for travelling and this has taken me to various countries to work including Spain and America. I love to meet new people from all over the world; taking in their culture and learning different languages. In my spare time I like to explore new places, read and maintain a healthy lifestyle by taking part in physical activities and attending the gym.

I was initially attracted to working at a Nord Anglia school after my experience in The British School in Chicago. It was obvious that Nord Anglia is a well-established company; providing thousands of students around the world with excellent learning opportunities. Nord Anglia also offer great opportunity for professional development through Nord Anglia University. The reason behind my decision to come to Qatar, and NAISAK specifically, was the opportunity to work within a school with diverse cultures and to experience Middle East living.

I believe that by continuing to bring my enthusiasm and knowledge into the school, I will be able to instill the passion of learning within the students in my class. I want my students to become diverse, respectful individuals with a thirst for knowledge. I aim to inspire my learners to reach their full potential and become one step closer to their future dreams and aspirations.

Through positive encouragement and reinforcement I will aim to ensure that all students are able to develop academically and socially within a safe and stable environment. I will provide my students with adequate support and useful resources in order for them to excel in their learning.

Alongside reports and parent meetings, I will have regular contact with students’ parents in order to discuss progress and attainment. By being approachable and understanding, I aim to ensure parents are confident and comfortable enough to contact me at any point during the academic year to discuss their child’s progress.
