My name is Sumara Syed and I am teaching in Year 5 this year. I have been at NAISAK for the past two years, first working as a Learning Assistant in Year 3 before training to be a teacher last year. I completed my PGCE through the University of Sunderland and taught in Year 2, 3 and 5 at various points during the year.
Outside of school I enjoy travelling to different countries with my husband; since moving to Qatar I have been lucky enough to travel to thirteen different countries. I also enjoy cooking and trying different food from all over the world.
Before moving to Qatar, I studied Sociology at Aston University and then worked for one of the biggest recruitment companies in the UK. However, I had always wanted to be a teacher and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work at NAISAK in 2017 as a Learning Assistant. Being in the classroom reaffirmed my belief that I would enjoy being a teacher, so I applied to the University of Sunderland to complete a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). I was accepted on to the course which began on September 2018. During the last academic year, I successfully completed my teacher training and gained my PGCE in June 2019. Over the course of the year, I completed teaching placements in Year 3 and 5, learning a variety of teaching techniques which I am sure will prove invaluable as I progress as a teacher. I am looking forward to working in Year 5 this year to teach the wonderful students we have at NAISAK.
I moved to Qatar with my husband in 2015 and at that time, I have been lucky to visit many different countries including Oman, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. I love learning about different cultures and trying food from all over the world. I also have a passion for cooking and really enjoy trying different recipes in the kitchen. One of my aims is to get better at swimming; hopefully it is something I can achieve very soon.
I am really looking forward to developing as a teacher with Nord Anglia as they offer fantastic opportunities for professional development. Furthermore, there have been a lot of positive changes made to NAISAK including new interactive whiteboards and a new ICT suite which I am really excited to use as I believe it will enhance the students’ learning.
