Michael Fleary

Year 6 Teacher

After graduating from the University of Bolton in 2005 with a 2:1 degree in Sport and Exercise Science, I embarked on a fantastic opportunity to do some sports coaching work in America with young people aged 8-16.  Not only did this increase my ambition to become a teacher in the future, but it also gave me my first chance, to live and work in a different country.  Following this, I completed a PGCE and started teaching GCSE and A-level Physical Education at a large secondary school in England.  During this time, I also held a leadership position and continued to coach junior football outside of my full-time work commitments.

As I was always keen at some point in my career to try my hand at primary teaching, I did just that in 2016, when I applied for and secured a teaching position with another school in Qatar.  This was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I wish that I had taught primary children a lot earlier!  As I have experience of teaching learners from Key Stage 1 right through to Key Stage 5, I believe that I have acquired many skills and strategies to offer the best learning experience possible for my students.

In my spare time I enjoy playing and watching sport, cycling and keeping fit at the gym.  I enjoy reading books and listening to music and I am even hopeful to start learning how to play the guitar – any help from children and staff is welcomed!  Living in Qatar over the last five years has given me an incredible opportunity to travel and this is something that I hope to continue doing in the future.

Previously, I have only worked in large schools and last year, I really enjoyed being part of the smaller family environment at NAISAK. The diverse culture of international schools appeals to me, as it allows me to learn just as much from the children as they do from me. I am passionate about education as I genuinely believe it has the power to transform lives and provide opportunities, as I believe it has done for me.
