I studied at Canterbury University in Christchurch New Zealand where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biological Sciences. I have always enjoyed working with children so decided to combine both my passions and become a Chemistry teacher. For the past 4 years I have been working at Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland, New Zealand. During my time at MAGS I have been involved with creating unit plans and assessments for various courses at each year level as Teacher in Charge of multiple Achievement Standards.
I decided to join the NAISAK team as a way to progress my teaching career. The previous 4 years I have taught all possible classes at every year level so I am looking to gain insight at an international school and how each class incorporates the British curriculum as it is one I am less familiar with. I look forward to the challenge of taking on a new role, with new classes in a country I have never been to before.
Growing up in New Zealand I am fortunate enough to have spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors. My hobbies include swimming and wakeboarding during the summer months in Lake Wanaka and snowboarding through winter at many of the various ski fields NZ has to offer. The beautiful forest ranges and surrounding Islands provide incredible scenery and amazing day walks or overnight tramps which are done all year round. I have recently discovered a passion for travelling and exploring new places which is one of the reasons why I choose to come to Qatar.
NAISAK will be very different to what I’ve experienced, the international community ensures an exciting variety of culture in the classroom. This unique combination of individuals will provide a new insight to the international community which I have not experienced much of before. Living in the Middle East and teaching out of New Zealand will also be a new experience; I look forward to the challenge of adjusting to the climate and culture of Qatar while providing a solid foundation of Science to the students at NAISAK.
