There are so many ways to get involved in sport in both Primary and High School. Read on for more information.

Primary School Sport

We continue  our busy sports calendar with some major tournaments coming up such as FOBISIA swimming on 20 & 21 January, the Harrow International Football 7s and also the start of the TISAC football season. Furthermore, our gymnastics team and tennis squads are busy preparing for their tournaments coming up later on in the term.

A recent development at the Primary School is our new Fitness Studio that is opposite the Gymnastics Centre on the top floor of the S block. This room will be used for yoga and fitness lessons during curriculum time and after school.

Badminton

In term 2 we will hold trials for the badminton squads. These players will go on to represent STA at the up and coming badminton tournaments.

For the children that do not make the squads or would like to play more badminton there is an open session on Tuesdays after school from 2.45 -3.45pm (moodle sign up will become available next week after the trial). The first open session will be on the 23 January.

Badminton Squad Trails at Sports Hall from 12.40-1.10 pm:

  • On 16 January 2018 for U9s (Y3-4)
  • On 18 January 2018 for U11s (Y5-6)

Badminton Squad training will start from 23 January:

  • Every Tuesday lunchtime for U9s from 12.10-12.40pm in the Sports Hall
  • Every Thursday lunchtime for U11s from 12.10-12.40pm in the Sports Hall

Football

The U9 boys have their rearranged Harrow Bangkok Cup Final on the 16 January @ Soccer Pro against Shrewsbury. After the disappointment of the Phuket 7s tournament a win would be a great way to start 2018. The TISAC football season starts in the next few weeks with fixtures to be arranged soon. We will be entering our B team players into the leagues to give them a chance to represent STA.

Tennis

Last Friday our Flames tennis squad had their first tennis fixture of 2018. It was great to see our Flames tennis players back in action!

There are lots of opportunities to get take part in our ever growing programme, if you would like to get involved or would like some more information please email: Adam.cu@standrews.ac.th

High School Sport

Saturday Club and Flames Basketball Academy

Our Saturday training continues to grow, with nearly 150 students attending each Saturday to develop their basketball skills. There is a great atmosphere at the weekend and it’s a real pleasure to coach our amazing STA ballers and watch their progress.

If you’d like your child to be a part of this training, please contact Mr. Ollie (ollie.fa@standrews.ac.th). It’s never too late to start the journey!

U13 Girls Football

Due to popular demand, we have now started U13G Football on a Saturday morning. If you’d like your daughter to join, please email Mr. Ollie (ollie.fa@standrews.ac.th) .

Sports Days

As an addendum to last week’s update, we’re planning our annual House Sports Days for this term. To accommodate the large numbers in school, we’ll again have split days for all Year groups as follows:

  • 27 February: Year 7
  • 28 February: Year 8
  • 8 March: Year 10
  • 9 March: Year 9

This means that everyone will participate in a full athletics programme. In keeping with our approach to offer non-competitive roles, there will be a limited number of marshall places available for those who would rather help organise than compete.

U13 FOBISIA Games

Training resumes this week and continues until we leave for Phuket. If your child is part of the team, please try to ensure that they are present for all Friday training sessions. Thank you.

ECA Sport

We’re pleased to see so many students engage in extra-curricular sport in addition to the hundreds who train as part of a Flames or Marlins squad. Together with our options programme in PE - whereby some students select which activities they engage in and the emphasis is on recreational participation and independence - we feel this is a positive indicator of the approach of St Andrews students to engaging in a healthy, active lifestyle.

We have non-selective activities in all of our major sports: football, basketball, swimming, tennis. There is also yoga, table tennis, rock climbing and fitness, providing a broad range of activities to suit all tastes.

BASE Fitness

We’re pleased to see BASE continue to offer functional fitness training to students, staff and parents alike. They are now running two sessions for staff, two for parents, two for our elite athletes and two ECAs per week. If you’d like to get involved (either you or your child), please email Mr. Ollie (ollie.fa@standrews.ac.th).
